Awareness & Outreach Programs

Farmer Training & Capacity Building

Through regularly scheduled farmers’ meets, we cover a range of topics such as straw management technologies and their advantages. We teach farmers how to use, handle, and maintain these machines independently.

We educate farmers about the benefits of renting large machines and creating a source of income from them, along with sharing success stories of other local farmers.

Farmer Field Days

Field days are confidence building and farmer to farmer experience-sharing sessions organized at the field – farmers that adopted technology and switched to non-burning. The farmers from the local village get first-hand experience of technology adoption and visually experience crop growth by visiting the fields during the crop cycle.

Experience is shared and apprehensions and queries are resolved among the farmers.

More than 100 such events have facilitated interaction among 1500 farmers in our impact villages.

Farmer Exposure Visit

To provide exposure to farmers to see best practices (as it’s said ‘Seeing is believing’) IPS foundation in collaboration with BISA/CYMMYT and Punjab Agriculture University. organized field exposure visits for the farmers from Ropar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur, Barnala, Patiala, and Ludhiana. These visits were organized in BISA’s 500 acre center in Ladowal Ludhiana and at the training center in Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. Around 300 farmers visited the centers in batches as part of the program. Farmers were exposed to on-field and classroom interactions around crop residue management.

These visits provide a platform for farmers to witness best practices in Paddy growing, successful results of using Happy Seeder and Super SMS technology and at the same time interact with Experts to clarify their doubts and issues around the use of new technologies or around soil and agronomy.

Nukkad Natak

A Nukkad Natak has been a longstanding learning tool in rural India. Actors and performers gather at the village nukkad – the village center – and invite locals to see live performances with a message attached.

To help make a significant change possible, the IPSF team decided to employ the Nukkad Natak as a tool to teach farmers about the harmful effects of stubble burning.

Change Buddies

Within the IPSF, a change buddy is a progressive farmer who has successfully employed alternate methods to clear fields. Our Change Buddy program leverages the local influence a changemaker can have within their communities.

Farmers using alternate methods are enabled to connect with 10 to 12 farmers covering around 100 acres. These farmers then work together to pledge the use of non-burning methods on their own fields.
